About ALIAR

The Argentina Smoke-Free Alliance (ALIAR) is a coalition of over 100 civil society organizations that work together for the promotion of tobacco control policies throughout the Argentinean territory, with the aim of protecting people’s health from the devastating effects of exposure to second-hand smoke and reducing tobacco consumption.

Exposure to second-hand smoke is a public health issue that requires the joint action of both the governments and the civil society. The implementation of effective policies, capable of protecting the entire population, is the only way to guarantee every person’s right to life, physical integrity, health, and dignified and equal work conditions.

ALIAR is not only a group of medical organizations. On the contrary, among its members there are organizations for the protection of human rights’ and the environment, health professionals’ associations, hospitality sector representatives and organizations from the communications’ area. ALIAR seeks to strengthen networking for the promotion of tobacco control policies and coordinating diverse actions with the governments to guarantee their effective implementation.
